What are the MIRACLES in YOUR life?

What are the MIRACLES in YOUR LIFE?

I had a little incident over the weekend that I had shared with my friends on Facebook.

I was driving to a party and was getting worried. I had been circling round and round and couldn’t find any parking available at night. Allegra, can you ask mother Mary for a parking spot?” She confidently answered, “She’s flying behind our car.” As she said that sentence a car pulled out right in front of us.
Apart from freaking me out (I slept with the light on that night) it got me thinking about miracles and spurred me to write an article about this.

As I lay there in bed, I began recalling the many times miracles had in fact appeared in my life.

There was the birth of my miracle baby. The doctors had declared her dead whilst I was pregnant (I even received flowers of condolence) then my shock to find her heart beating on the ultrasound.

Then there was the devastating news two days before our wedding day when doctors declared our grandmother would pass away. The family prepared for this and she miraculously lived another two years.

Finally, as a child I recalled when my brothers and I went swimming at an unpatrolled beach. My youngest brother was swept away by a rip kilometres out at sea in the direction of dangerous waves crashing against jagged rocks by a cliff. We said our goodbyes and saw the fear in my dad’s eyes. By some miracle a wave delivered him back to us on a diagonal direction back to safety.

Recalling these events and more reaffirmed that someone out there greater than me, God, the Universe, Universal consciousness was taking care of me.

I couldn’t be the only one experiencing this, other people must be living with miracles in their own lives all around the world – perhaps without even realising it.

So what are miracles?

One definition describes ‘miracles’ as “An effect or extraordinary event in the physical world thatsurpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.” – www.dictionary.com

Miracles don’t have to involve a flash of light in the sky or some extraordinary phenomena. Wayne Dwyer says, “I am realistic – I expect miracles.”

In reality the fact that we are alive is a miracle. The fact that we are breathing comes from a ‘supernatural cause’. There are so many miracles we experience on a daily basis. The miracle of being able to speak and listen and see…the miracle of being able to share with loved ones…the miracles of nature and our world.

Sue Monk Kidd described it well:

“I realized it for the first time in my life: there is nothing but mystery in the world, how it hides behind the fabric of our poor, browbeat days, shining brightly, and we don’t even know it.” ? Sue Monk Kidd, the Secret Life of Bees:

I realised, the more I searched for miracles in my life, the more I found them.

Miracles are like pimples, because once you start looking for them you find more than you ever dreamed you’d see.”
? Lemony Snicket, The Lump of Coal

So what is the PURPOSE of miracles?

Miracles lift you from the mediocre world of ‘just getting by’ or complaining about life and everything going wrong in it, to counting your blessings and being in awe of the gift of your life.

In my life I have found the more miracles I discover in my life – the more grateful I feel. The less I complain and the less stressed out I am. The more I am grateful towards a Universal Being greater than me, the more I receive.

The more you search for miracles in your life, the more miracles you will find.

The more miracles you are aware of, the more gratitude you experience.

The more you have gratitude, the more you will be given to be grateful for. You will continue to experience more miracles in your life.

I hear you thinking, “But how about the terrible things that are happening in my life? These can’t be miracles.”

Even setbacks can be miracles if you allow them to be. Events in your life can be miracles that give you greater insight or strength if you choose so. Or you can choose to live the rest of your life as a ‘victim’ to those terrible events.

The Universe, or God is present in your life and has allowed certain circumstances to occur in your life for you to learn, grow and to love yourself and others.

For example, I was so disappointed that I wasn’t selected as the final winner when interviewed amongst a select group of graduates for a special program. This ‘loss’ actually opened doors for me and allowed me to work at an amazing school I really wanted to teach at where I made connections with the most amazing staff members that I still cherish today!

I was also disappointed by being turned down as a flatmate for a very swanky apartment. I ended up in a crappy unit but made an amazing friendship with a hilarious guy. I would have never made it through those years without his crazy antics.

This week, try this exercise. Sit down or lie down at night in bed and reflect, what miracles have you experienced in your life? Make a list.
• It could be supernatural events
• Healing
• Blessings you are grateful for such as a loving partner, children or family even if they make you pull your hair out
• Your best friend
• Your pet
• Events in your life
• Setbacks in your past that actually turned out to be miracles.

Feel the joy of having these experiences in your life. Say ‘thank you’ so you can experience MORE miracles in your week.

Albert Einstein said,

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

You only live in this world once. You might as well live it with wonder and amazement. I invite you to look at your life as a miracle.
Feel free to share your experiences of miracles in your life.
