Is FEAR creeping up again?

 

It’s the final trimester. As I finally put together the last stages before the birth of my book, I feel a suffocating presence, creeping up from behind me. “Sheldon? Sheldon?” The house is empty. Alone with my own thoughts, I feel my heart rate rise before IT takes hold of me. It paralyses me, triggering a terrorising scream.

Don’t you just hate that? You think you have finally overcome your major fears and in the most unsuspecting moments they pop out to haunt you:

 

You are NOOOO GOOOD!

 You aren’t a professional.

 Other people are better at what you do.

 People will criticize you.

 What if they’ll reject you?

Or in my case, No one will find your book funny.

 

Yep, it’s good old FEAR again. It’s back.

 

Unfortunately FEAR is something you never fully overcome in life. It will keep coming back to haunt you like those pesky cockroaches. There’s even that saying “New level, new devil,” so even if you do face a fear, it’s likely that another one will pop up shortly.

So what can you do about it?

 

One of my favourite leading entrepreneurs, Marie Forleo says,

“Contrary to what most people think, having fear and self-doubt is not a problem. It’s what you do when fear and self-doubt sets in that makes all the difference in the world.”

 

She says that every successful person experiences fear. The secret is not to fight it, but to feel the sensation and just ride with it like you would on a roller coaster. Fear is just a sensation in your body that can actually fuel your goals if you don’t repeatedly run negative messages in your head.

Marie says

“Fear is excitement with the breaks on.”

So you just need to learn to party with fear.
Dr Demartini says,

FEAR is the ASSUMPTION that in the NEAR or FAR FUTURE, you are going to EXPERIENCE….MORE PAIN than pleasure, MORE NEGATIVES than positives, MORE LOSSES than gains, MORE CHALLENGE than support from self or other(s)”.

 

FEAR is reacting as though the worst scenario, e.g. being humiliated, failing or being judged, has ALREADY OCCURRED.  It isn’t REALITY, it’s a PERCEPTION.

 

FEAR is only:

FALSE

EVIDENCE

APPEARING

REAL

 

Fear doesn’t have to mean:

F*%@

EVERYTHING

AND

RUN

Fear usually occurs on the brink of expanding yourself to new limits and new horizons.

My favourite way of dealing with fear comes from Napoleon Hill, in his book Think and Grow Rich:

 

“FEAR, the WORST of ALL enemies, can be effectively CURED through forced REPETITION of ACTS of COURAGE”. – Napoleon Hill

 

It’s so simple. CURE FEAR WITH REPEATED ACTS OF COURAGE. Feel the fear and do it anyway. This helped me through some of the scariest moments of my life. Don’t let fear stop you from growing.

REMEMBER, EVERY TIME YOU FACE A FEAR:

 

-   You enter into a new realm and DISCOVER a new dimension of yourself which you never thought you had, e.g. a new talent or new ability, etc…

 

-   You LIVE a more INSPIRED life – A LIFE with VITALITY. Your inspired destiny or purpose becomes clearer.

 

-   YOU ARE CHANGING THE WORLD!  By CHOOSING NOT to SHRINK but to SHINE you are contributing to the life of many people around the world. Whether you realise it or not, every action of yours has a ripple effect in the world.

 

Ask yourself:

 

1. What is one fear that is holding you back in your life?

e.g. Fear of being judged, humiliated, rejected, failing, being abandoned, fear of being broke, fear of the unknown.

 

2. What is the worst that could happen?  Would it REALLY matter if this occurred?   How would you benefit if the worst happened?

 

Dr Demartini says by finding the benefits in the worst scenario, we can actually DISSOLVE fear.

 

E.g. people reject my writing– benefits could be more determination to learn and improve writing skills.

E.g. failing in a business venture – benefits could be more wisdom and knowledge for the next business venture. The most successful entrepreneurs gained their knowledge and skills from their greatest failures.

 

3. What is ONE ACT of COURAGE you can take to CONQUER this fear?

 

NOW DO IT! Remember, procrastination and lack of action allows FEAR to GROW
